Bathtubs, Women

Two striking examples of, uh, popular post-modernism. The first is a Punch cartoon by the skittery and inventive Frederick Roland Emmett (b. 1906-1990). Reflect that he was the “grandson of Queen Victoria’s engraver” (per Wiki). From such solid beginnings we decline to mid-air bathtubs.

Emmett designed Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and received an OBE. “He was fair-haired and fresh-faced, looked younger than his years, and bore a resemblance to Danny Kaye.”

Who did the cover below? I don’t know, but I like it. The book, a paperback original, came out in 1964 and is by the author of the unflinching surveys Unwed Mothers and Teen-age Brides and the helpful Charting Your Course: A Vocation Guidebook for Boys.

Daily proverb. Failure is no good.
