Yeah, Merry friggin’ New Year. And in that spirit let us start with an enigmatic Charles Rodriques cartoon that … well, I don’t know. Is the lady with the cap supposed to be a lesbian, 1970 Playboy style? Wouldn’t make any difference, I suppose. My bet is this is just a case of lady-driver humor, aquatic-style.

The Kliban strikes me as genuinely funny. Perhaps I shouldn’t admit this, but some of the big-name cartoons in these posts are included solely for purposes of history. Not the case here.

The Brad Holland, on the other hand, is hampered by the color job. I read the accompanying “Ribald Classic,” a Chinese folk tale or something that reinforced my belief that stories from olden times in faraway countries are generally lacking in punch. This story involves transvestitism.

And we conclude with a delightful piece by Mal. When was a whole bunch of white space put to better use? Wiki says the cartoonist’s name was Malcolm Hancock and that he was confined to a wheelchair.
