That’s Mr. Kruger from “Hippie House,” my personal favorite of the Bradley stories. As far as I know, he is the only one of Buddy Bradley’s teachers ever to make it onto the page. The poor guy thought he could reach the kid. Nothing to reach, pal!

Peter Bagge, artist and writer of the Bradley series, is a few years older than me and grew up in Peekskill, N.Y. Per Google Maps, that’s a 40-minute drive from my hometown. Which is relevant because I had an art teacher in high school who looked and acted just like Mr. Kruger. And this teacher, according to my classmates, had a twin brother who taught at a high school not far away.

A final bit of evidence: my teacher’s last name also began with a K and had two syllables.

Proof? No. But one can always hope.
