Some More Silly Clothes

Last week I posted a few photos and an advertisement. Now we have just ads, but these too are from the September 1970 issue of Playboy.

We start with artist Leroy Neiman as captured in a Dewar’s profile (the Scotch drinker’s equivalent of the “What Sort of Man Reads Playboy” ads). Mustache!

And a selection of funky but formal shirts.

And, on a non-fashion note, a condensed, one-picture gallery of end-of-the-’60s photographic kitsch. The copy is a little strange. Why “perfection in smiles,” especially when she’s so moody and soulful?

Now brace yourselves for the giant-size portrait of a man wearing Jaymar slacks with Ban-Rol. You’d swear the advertiser set this up just so Crumb and the other underground cartoonists wouldn’t run out of material.

Daily proverb. Do you know how silly you look? Glad to hear it.
