From Trees to Tribunes: an excerpt from a promotional documentary

King and Gray and some others can be seen “in-action,” sketching and inking actual strips. Gray was rarely photographed, so movie footage is pretty amazing to see.

All three parts of this promotional film can be downloaded at archive.org. The music is 1930’s “Medley of Paramount Music” and Ray De Costa’s “Whoopee.” All video and audio used here are in the public domain.

Awesome find! Interesting to see how little the tools of the trade have changed, and how large their weekly originals are compared to the teeny sizes in today’s newspaper strips.
